Catching up and Changes

Hey Friends!

Long time no talk, huh?

If you follow any of my other Super Girlz Fitness social media outlets I am sure you have noticed that I haven’t shared much in months. That is simply because 2017 has brought a lot of changes into my life. As some of you know my youngest son graduated from High School this June and has since started college. My oldest son is working full time now and well, my stay at home Mom days are completely done. The “job” (BEST JOB EVER BTW) I’ve had for 20 years has ended and has left me feeling overwhelmed and lost at times. I’ve been trying to figure out where I go from here. I’m only 43. I haven’t had a job outside of the home in 20 years so going and getting one is a bit scary to me. Plus…what the heck would I even want to do?

A lot of soul searching has been done in my alone time. One thing I know for sure is that I will not be renewing my DBA or Personal Training certificates. Meaning Super Girlz Fitness will be officially closed as of November 15, 2017. Super Girlz Fitness has been my other job for 10 years. An amazing 10 YEARS!

My training business was a lot of fun and allowed me to help others and be creative. But, it is not something I see myself doing as I get older. Never fear though…if you have a health or fitness related question you can still contact me and we can chat. I also plan to keep my Beachbody Coaching account open. If you need any at home workouts, supplements or health & fitness related gear just let me know. My Beachbody site is still TurboStaci.com.

Onto the future…
While I don’t know exactly what it holds or which direction to turn, I have other passions and interests beyond health & fitness I would like to pursue. Of course I will keep you all posted. This site will be up until the end of the year. I will let you know where I land before then via this blog and my other social media outlets. BUT, I cant go yet….

I want to take this opportunity to say a huge THANK YOU!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of my Super Girlz Fitness family. I will always look back on those 10 years with fond memories and cherish the life long friends I have made along the way. Please stay in touch!!

With all my love!

Motivation to Stay on the Health Wagon

Everyone gets relaxed about their health & fitness goals. It’s just what humans do. We go, go, go strong and determined for a week or two and then we start to let life get in the way and start to revert back to old habits.

We don’t plan our meals.
We don’t meal prep.
We don’t workout and move our bodies every day.

We just simply stop making time for ourselves.

If you think about it, once illness hits we end up being stopped in our tracks and HAVE to focus on ourselves and our well-being. Sometimes moving more and eating better may not be the fix for what ails us.

So today my friends please take some time and really think about YOURSELF. Sit down and write out ways you are healthy and ways you are not so healthy. Like a pros & cons list but focus on your health…not how you look in the mirror. Think about what you want your future to look like and what steps you can start taking today to move toward that future.

Just to give you an example:
For myself, I would write down a con as not being as physically fit in my endurance right now as I once was. BUT, a pro would be that my muscle strength is good and I don’t have any physical limitations. Looking toward my future goals I want to keep up my muscle strength, flexibility, mobility and work to increase my endurance by starting up a fitness plan to help move me toward those goals.

Healthy Future

I hope reading this has you thinking about your future physical fitness and what goals you want to achieve. If you would like to share please do so in the comments. I will read & approve all comments before they are posted to the blog. 😉

Why I’m so passionate about becoming an Organ Donor

As you all know I’m a huge advocate of organ donation and sharing my Dad’s story. National Donate Life Month is observed annually during the month of April. It commemorates and celebrates the countless lives affected by transplant and donation across the United States. Help raise awareness by sharing YOUR story or stories of people in your life who have been impacted by organ and tissue donation/transplantation. If you are not BUT have considered becoming an organ donor please do so. Not many people think about becoming a donor until it affects your life. I am guilty of this myself.

AWARENESS is so important to that patient (& family) who is on the waiting list.  You never plan to need a transplant but when you are told that is your only way to continue living…you are eternally grateful beyond words for those people who took the time to become a donor.

I will always be grateful for the young lady and her family who gave my family hope of having a long life with my Dad. Sadly, her lungs were not viable enough for transplant and my Dad couldn’t wait another day. I always wonder if her family was told about my Dad…if they know how much hope they gave my family that day as we waited for his double lung transplant. Yes, we were scared. But, to know it was his shot at life again was such a blessing. One I will never forget. I hope and pray they knew my Dad, and our whole family, was extremely grateful that they gave us hope that day. We all got to be together one last time and THAT moment is what I like to focus on when the pain of losing him is too hard.

Influenster Charm VoxBox Review – Part 2

Today is Part 2 of my Influenster Charm VoxBox reviews. The following products were complementary from Influenster for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

EVA-NYC — Clean it up Shampoo & Therapy Session Hair Mask

I have never used this product before but it said it was for all hair types so I gave it a try. It states it will leave your hair soft and the mask is suppose to make it so your hair is easier to comb out. I washed my hair with the shampoo and instantly hated how it smelled. But, I went on with the mask that also stated it could be used once a week as a hair mask or as a daily conditioner. You leave it on 2-5 minutes and I left it on for 5+. Again, I hated the smell of the mask/conditioner. It is almost a medicine smell to me, but my husband liked the smell and said it smelled like baby powder. I did not find it anywhere close to a baby powder smell but wanted a second opinion. So, smell it before you buy it if how your hair smells is a big thing to you too. While the products cleaned and conditioned my hair like any other shampoo & conditioner, the conditioner did not make my hair easier to comb out like suggested. The smell of the products is not appealing to me and for that reason alone, I will not purchase these products for myself.

Peeps Delights – Coconut dipped in Dark Chocolate

Marshmallow is not a favorite of mine and I have to be 100% honest…I’ve never had a Peep before. So, I took a bite knowing I would hate the texture of the marshmallow but powered through that sensation and was surprised how good the taste was of the coconut and dark chocolate combo. The taste reminded me of a Mounds candy bar. I was surprised how SWEET that one bite was. I don’t know if I could eat a whole one just based off that bite. It was very sugary and sweet. But, the taste was surprisingly good…once you get past the marshmallow texture.

Wet & Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel

Everyone who knows me knows I love a home manicure and anything that is 1 step is a bonus in my book. While this blue color I was gifted would not be my first pic, it is very SPRING and there are many other colors to choose from in this collection. You can purchase them from Wet & Wild or from Walmart.
The product website claims:

  • Up to 2 weeks of color & shine based on consumer grading
  • No UV Light Required
  • No Harsh Removal
  • 3-Free! No Formaldehyde, Toluene, or Phthalates!

My home manicure process…I started with clean filed nails. I did not use a base coat. I normally do and thought for the sake of this review I would just do the 1 Step. So, I applied a thin 1st coat about 2 hours before bed and waited to apply the second coat until this morning. The first thin coat was a little transparent but it went on well with the flatter applicator brush provided. It also dried very quickly. This morning I applied the 2nd coat and it went on just as nicely as the 1st and seemed to level itself out without me brushing over and over the nail. (I like that quality). The second coat I put on was a bit thicker than the first but I still controlled the amount so it wouldn’t be a huge mess. I was surprised the 2nd coat dried quickly too. I am resisting the urge to put my top coat over it but I won’t. I will update this blog post with pictures of before, during and after within the 2 weeks it claims the color will last.

EDITED 4.4.17– Update time! As you can see it has only been 5 whole days since I posted about the 1 Step Wonder Gel…but I need to take this polish off. It’s too chipped up for me. I will say it wore through some tough projects. I sanded, stained, varnished and assembled a DIY project and then stained the platform bed & headboard we made for our son (while wearing gloves)…along with all the dishes, laundry, cleaning, typing and just random day to day chores I do. I do think if I would have used my tried and true Sally Hanson Top coat it would have lasted much longer. I wish I would have topped a nail or two on each hand to test it out, but maybe next time. I also want to mention that I added a third coat of the 1 Step Wonder Gel to my nails Friday morning because the tips of my very short nails was already wearing off…not chipped but wore off some. The photos below are from this morning and show the wear I experienced in 5 days.

1 Step Wonder Gel - WWWet and Wild 1 Step

Thank you again Influenster for the complementary products in the Charm VoxBox! I have enjoyed reviewing these new to me products and I hope my readers did too. If you missed the first half of my reviews on the Mott’s applesauce, McCormick Seasoning and Vera Wang perfume please go HERE to check out that blog post.

Influenster Charm VoxBox Review – Part 1

I received my complementary Charm VoxBox full of products to review from Influenster…all opinions and reviews are my own. This is my first time participating with Influenster and have had a great experience. Today I am going to review 3 of the products I received. The other 3 will be reviewed on Thursday’s blog.

Mott’s Snack & Go Natural Applesauce Pouch

As young children, my boys always asked for Mott’s natural applesauce in their lunch pails, so this is not a new product to our family. The only difference is the pouch, these weren’t available “back in the day”. My boys still love applesauce and this pouch makes it a great snack on the go for busy families.

*EDITED* – I should note that since I don’t have a toddler and my son is almost 20, he was not interested in sucking applesauce through a pouch so we cut it open. Also, I have seen the concern with these pouches being full of mold, but the one we received was perfect. Just good old natural applesauce.

Vera Wang Embrace (Rose Buds & Vanilla AND Marigold & Gardenia)

I am a fan of light fragrance and these hit the mark with me. Today I’m enjoying the Rose Buds & Vanilla.
The Rose Buds & Vanilla (affiliate link) is described as…
FRAGRANCE NOTES – Rose buds, mandarin oil, damascena rose, cyclamen, blue iris, sweet magnolia, musk, vanilla and sandalwood.

The Marigold & Gardenia (affiliate link) is described as…
FRAGRANCE NOTES – Melon, soft musks, marigold and gardenia.

*Both are available on Amazon & I’ve added my affiliate links above for quick viewing.
(Disclaimer: If you purchase from one of my affiliate links I will receive a commission from Amazon at no extra cost to you)

McCormick Organics (Taco Seasoning)

McCormick’s is my families favorite Taco Seasoning. We always have a few packets on hand. Normally we purchase the Mild 30% less sodium version so I was really excited to see the only nutrition difference was 10mg more of sodium in the Organic version. I posted both packages so you can see the difference in macros and ingredients. You will see the Organic version is Certified Organic, NON GMO and Gluten Free.

I had my family taste test both versions last night and the verdict is…they both taste the same and are AMAZING! So, I will be making the switch to the organic version the next time we replenish our taco seasoning stock. McCormick Organics Taco Seasoning is available in stores or on Amazon in single packets (affiliate link) or in a case of 12 (affiliate link).
(Disclaimer: If you purchase from one of my affiliate links I will receive a commission from Amazon at no extra cost to you)

I hope you enjoyed today’s reviews and a HUGE THANKS to Influenster for sending me all of these products for free to review. THURSDAY’s BLOG will be Part 2 where I review Coconut Peeps, Eva-NYC shampoo and hair mask and Wet & Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel.

How I keep a Healthy Home – Friday Favorites – Volume 4

Today I want to talk about a healthy home and my favorite way to achieve that is by keeping a CLEAN home.

Before I had babies I used every chemical known to man to clean my house….even if the fumes made me sick and left me with no voice for days. It was the price I was willing to pay to have a clean home. It wasn’t until I was given a book about uses for vinegar and all the great things this smelly liquid could do…for a lot of different things, but the one that stuck out to me the most was the way I could use it as a cheap and SAFE disinfectant in my home.

I was sold. I hate the smell of vinegar but really the smell goes away quickly and if you have a candle or warmers going you will never even smell it. The benefits are amazing.

“Vinegar can be used as a safer bleach alternative for some applications, like cleaning. It is also biodegradable. However, vinegar is not a registered disinfectant and does not kill dangerous bacteria like staphylococcus.” SOURCE

There are many things you can clean in your home with vinegar so I will link them here for you.

I personally use a mixture of 50% water 50% white vinegar in a spray bottle to clean. I use it to clean all my counters (kitchen & bathrooms), wash my windows, spray down all appliances with this mixture. I also use straight vinegar as a rinse agent in my dishwasher.  It’s a great all purpose cleaner. If you clean your house often you will rarely need anything stronger. The only other cleaning staple I have is the Mr. Clean eraser. Mainly for my stove and any cooking messes. When you use a more natural product like vinegar and water you can have your kiddos help clean too.

I use to mop my floors with the same mixture of water and vinegar and it kept them very clean but I got a Shark Steam Mop one year at a Black Friday sale and I have been steaming my floors with just water ever since. Love that steam mop…so much so my Mom gave me her’s when my first one died. (Thanks Mom!)

So, if you feel “off” or sick after cleaning your house like I used to, why not try something safer? If you do try it or you already use vinegar as a household cleaner, please leave me a comment and let me know how you use it!

Below is the exact vinegar I use (purchased at Sam’s Club) and the old spray bottle I use to mix my water & vinegar in.

Have you heard of Fascia Blasting?

I have heard of Fascia Blasting because I follow some people on social media who use blasting as a form of pain and soreness relief. I am a huge advocate and user of a foam roller for muscle soreness, but this takes things to the next level. I joined a women’s only group on Facebook for Fascia Blasters and read through a lot of the posts and viewed photos and videos about the Blaster and the results people were getting. I was very intrigued, so I bought the Mini 2 version to try.

Now, I don’t need to tell you that EVERYONE has a different body and different needs for their body so what works for one does not mean it works for all. There are claims of becoming pain free, losing fat and riding yourself of cellulite. I’m not claiming any of that to be true because I simply don’t know personally what will happen with my own body. I do know that I am up for anything that helps me stay mobile and pain free as I age. I don’t suffer from an illness or disease, just the normal “getting older” aches and pains. So, I’m excited to try blasting for myself to see if I can achieve being pain free and mobile for life….and if fat loss and getting rid of my cellulite happens then I see that as a bonus. 😉

I’m not going to go on and on about something I am still learning about myself so I will point you to the creator of the Fascia Blaster, Ashley Black’s website. GO HERE >>> www.AshleyBlackGuru.com

There you will find all the information you need to decide if this is something you want to try. She also has a TON of videos on her YouTube channel (search Ashley Black Guru) to see the Fascia Blaster in action.

Fascia Blaster Mini2

I just received my Mini 2 Fascia Blaster yesterday and did a light blasting session on my whole body after my workout. I wanted to get the feel for the blaster and to see how my body responds. I did not bruise at all. That may change as I get deeper into my fascia in the following weeks as my sessions increase in intensity and time.

When you go to the website you will see there are other versions of the Fascia Blaster you can purchase. Do your research and find the one that is best for you.

If any of my readers purchase a blaster or are already using one please leave me a comment or a private message on my Facebook Page SUPER GIRLZ FITNESS. I would love to chat and hear your thoughts.

Giving Back is Good for your Health

We all know that when we give to others without expecting anything in return we always feel amazing. To help another person just gives you those feel good endorphin’s and those endorphin’s help you be a healthier person…mentally. Health and Wellness isn’t just about the food you put in your mouth or the amount of calories you burn in your workouts. It’s also about how you feel mentally and where your mindset is. In my opinion, you can’t have a healthy body without a healthy mind.

If your mind always goes to the negative, guess what? You will ALWAYS see the negative in a situation before you see any of the positive. I believe that for EVERY SINGLE event or experience in your life there is always a positive to be found…even if you don’t see it right at that moment. In the thick and heat of an life altering event you really don’t think clearly and are consumed by feelings…which is great and normal. But, after some time has passed I bet if you examine the event again you can find SOMETHING that is positive. Even if it’s just what you LEARNED from the event or experience… OR learned about YOURSELF for going through this experience.

All that to be said because I believe that if you give to others your life is more fulfilling and blessed. I know not everyone will agree but those are my beliefs. You can give back in many ways and I have shared a few of my favorites in past blogs, like donating blood or becoming and organ donor. There are many ways to give back…paying it forward, donating your time or money….and the list goes on.

Last week while checking out my Facebook newsfeed a video popped up about a brand new sock company and the father and son who started it together. I watched it and was moved to place an order. I am sharing the video below along with my own personal order and what I received. This is NOT a paid blog post and I purchased the following order with my own money. John’s Crazy Socks has no idea I’m writing this blog but I was SO happy with my order I wanted to share my experience.

I love every thing about this company. Their mission to spread happiness through socks (smiles are contagious and who doesn’t love a fun pair of socks?), they give back to others and every package is personal.

Yes, it really can be that simple to spread some happiness to others while also feeling good about yourself. If you are moved to place an order like I was, please contact me first and I will share my 10% off discount code with you.

Happy Tuesday Girlz!

Friday Favorites

wp-1489154576515.jpgUntil recently I thought my mattress was fine. It wasn’t until we got our new one that I realized I had just gotten used to the dips and pits over the years. Shop around and find the best mattress for you and your body. There are so many these days to choose from that it really can be a chore finding the best one. But, once you do your body & your health will thank you for it.

20130607112305I foam roll every time I have an ache or pain that is just nagging at me. A massage after every workout to get the kinks and soreness out but sounds like heaven BUT, that isn’t practical for most of us. Foam rolling can help! While it is painful at first, once you relax into it you will feel the difference. Foam rollers come in a few varieties…I personally like the longer version so I can roll out my whole back and upper shoulder area that gets sore and tight often. Foam rollers are available in most sporting goods stores or even Wal-Mart.

wp-1489156567029.pngHaving pots and pans that can help you cook healthy meals without adding a ton of extra butter or oil is very beneficial. I recently purchased my first porcelain enamel non-stick pan (photo of pan purchased from Sam’s Club) to see how it stacked up to my normal non-stick Teflon pans. I followed the directions and “seasoned” it before using. After making a few meals in it, one being a cheesy meal my husband made for his lunches this week, it gets a huge thumbs up from us. We like it so much we are going to buy another. *I have not done any research on the safety of Porcelain Enamel or Ceramic vs. Teflon but if you have a study or article I should read to educate myself, please share in the comments.

bb-all-access-bodThis one is a favorite of mine because simply it’s very convenient. I can stream any workout, anywhere I have internet and my laptop. NO MORE DVD’s! There are many different companies that offer streaming workouts but you know I’m a Beachbody coach and I personally enjoy their On Demand service. But, choose the right fit for your needs. *If you have questions about signing up for streaming workouts and wonder if Beachbody On Demand is the right fit for you & you need a health coach, please contact me. Staci@SuperGirlzFitness.com. I will help walk you through the best option for you.

wp-1489155467365.pngStaying hydrated is key to a healthy body. Sugary drinks, even Diet drinks filled with artificial sweetener can dehydrate you and leave you craving food. Drinking water is good for your body and organs. So, go look for the best water bottle for you! Again, there are so many to choose from you can’t go wrong. I am currently loving my “Yeti” knock off from Wal-Mart (Ozark Trail is the brand). It was a fraction of the price but keeps my cold drinks, cold and my hot coffee, hot….FOREVER!!! I loved them so much I purchased them as Christmas gifts for my family last year.
