A little about me & my passions…

I’m a work at home mom & wife. I have been married to my husband for 20 years. We have two sons, 19 & 17 years old. Family is everything to us. I’m also a Certified Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor, Boot Camp Instructor & Motivational Coach. I love working out & sharing that passion with others. I was always active as a kid & played softball during my teenage years. I worked out as a young adult but never consistently. My weight gain started during my 1st pregnancy, 50 pounds to be exact. I didn’t shed the extra pounds after my oldest son was born, in 1997. I started my second pregnancy overweight. When my second son was born, in 1999, I weighed 180 pounds at 5′ 2″. I was in shock! I did NOT want to be stuck in MOM JEANS forever. I was more than ready to get my pre-pregnancy body back & I wanted it NOW!

I did something reckless, I went to a doctor & got a prescription for diet pills. They did work & I did shed all the baby weight & then some, but they made me VERY moody, never hungry…ever & messed with my monthly cycle. I was not “me”. The pills made me unable to be the Mom I wanted to be or the wife I was before the pills. I had to “fake it” in front of my family & friends…it was draining. I finally decided enough was enough. I had to get it together for my family. I had to get ME back. I dumped the pills. It was the most liberating thing I’ve done for myself.

I started exercising regularly and to my surprise, I fell in love with it! Exercise soon became a passion of mine. But, I bounced back and forth in both weight & motivation to keep up my healthy lifestyle. I FINALLY realized no diet pill, fast or extreme starvation diet was going to make me healthy & fit. A healthy fit body comes from hard work, determination & consistency. I had to do it myself…for myself (& my guys). It was time to put myself first.

I found Turbo Jam by Chalene Johnson on an infomercial. It looked like so much fun & I thought if I could do something FUN & get the benefits of exercise that it was worth a shot. I quickly became a Turbo Jam addict. I did that program for a full year straight & was in the best shape of my life. Since then I’ve added in all of Chalene’s other workout programs along with other Beachbody workouts.

I decided I needed to share my life lesson & help others like me from making the same mistake I did with pills. So, I initially received my Certified Fitness Trainer from ISSA in November 2007. I recently updated my personal training certification with IFA. I also hold certificates in Group X, Step, Kickboxing, Cycling & Boot Camp Instruction. Along with Specific Nutrition, Pregnancy strength training program design & Prenatal & postpartum exercise design. I started my own online personal training business but I wanted to help more people change their lives. I signed on as an Independent Team Beachbody Coach in June 2010 so I could offer clients more options. I’m now able to reach many more people than I thought possible & have clients all over the US.

Currently I am using the 21 Day Fix portion control containers to keep my eating in check. I have to be honest & portion control is a daily struggle for me. I love to eat so I overeat…even on healthy foods. I also tried for years to out train my over indulgent diet. It does not work. The Fix has reminded me of HOW much my body really needs to fuel it for my active lifestyle. I love it & share it  with everyone who struggles like I do.

I want every woman to see that it’s not selfish to take care of yourself…it’s necessary. Making yourself a priority every day benefits not only you, but everyone in your life. Making time for exercise & making better food choices for yourself trickles down to the choices your family will make. What better gift is there to give your family than the gift of health & fitness?

    Thanks for sharing your story! It just proves the only real way to change your body is through hard work and discipline. I'm also a mom and I work my butt off to stay away from those "mom jeans". 🙂  Great site!
